BEING “PUT ON”

So in the melanated community there’s a popular phrase shared amongst those who come from more “impoverished” backgrounds that gets tossed around and has also gained popularity and it gets used by individuals who happen to find themselves introduced to new sources of information. And the information in question usually offers, well say, a wider perspective on life, and that phrase is, “put on“.

(random google image)

If I had to provide an example I once had a friend (whose couch I pissed on during a sleepover) who put me on to an anime called Yu Yu Hakusho.

(The Hakusho gang Hakusho’ing love to the viewers)

And ’til this day Yu Yu Hakusho remains as probably one of my all time favourite watches. Now, I’m bringing this up because lets face it, once you find yourself in certain circles especially amongst a large group of people that are well acquainted with one another they’re going to share information with you that could be easily accessed (considering the internet exists) but for one reason or another isn’t commonly known, and unless you’ve managed to successfully court someones favor who happens to be in the know on a given topic you could probably go an entire lifetime completely in the dark about certain areas of interest. For instance, lets say you get famous, someone is going to put you on to something, God only knows what! Could be car insurance or Armenian pop-tarts, but hopefully it’s beneficial to, idk, I guess the commonwealth. However, not to get too ahead of myself, to be fair, in most instances you would have had to initially been put on in the first place to become famous anyway, or at least one can speculate. I’ll probably revisit this topic in the future but, funny enough, as I’m writing this it just occured to me that my readers (God bless you guys🙏) might find themselves in a position to where they get to put people on to unoism. Lol.

Anyways,

Stay Cool.

Thank you for reading.
